Artist statement: This is one of the pieces I have been collaborating on with my sister FreTeshia. We call our selves: The Gurley, The title of the body of our work is "Black Martyrs, New Saints, Old Sinners,"

We began it as a study into the fact that American has no Black Saints but makes martyrs of Black people without issue. To achieve this I continued my study into Gothic, and holy arts from my time teaching at the El Paso Museum of Art, as well as in depth research of current social topics and their impact, social movements, or subjects (currently: African American victims of unlawful killing, I choose a medium (I use holy water, egg yoke, earth from several sights, and watercolors, I begin the piece then send it to my sister where she add her medium(she is a graffiti/ abstract artist), message, and interprets the subject and incident her way. The artwork like the social unrest is ongoing.
