Artist Inspiration : This painting is symbolic of the strength and perseverance of El Pasoans who, when faced with great tragedy, continue to move forward, stoically, but also with hope for a brighter future as a more united community. Done in a realistic style with rectangular shapes superimposed over the face, this represents our fractured lives coming together after so much loss. A silhouette of El Paso's most recognizable symbol, our Franklin Mountains, can be seen in the word strong. The idea for the woman's hair is based on the colorful bands forming the patterns found in the culturally significant Mexican sarapes. The entire image is unified by a color scheme of the secondary hues, orange, green and violet.
